ACMU Third Party Evaluation/Information Sources

There are a variety of third party sources that have information on ACMU's. A few of the best are listed below:

ASTM

www.astm.org

The American Society for Testing Materials provides technical standards for both concrete masonry and aerated concrete.

Credibility

ASTM is the worldwide open forum for the development of high quality, market-relevant international standards used around the globe.

Accuracy

ASTM standards are developed from their members around the world. World renowned for its technical expertise and market relevance, ASTM is one of the most comprehensive and authoritative resources available.

Reasonableness

The Annual Book of ASTM Standards consists of 80 volumes. ASTM standards have been adopted by federal, state, and municipal government agencies including the United States Government.

Support

ASTM standards are used by more than 30,000 members including 1100 organizational members. ASTM International has no role in requiring or enforcing compliance with its standards. The standards, however, may become mandatory when referenced by an external contract, corporation, or government.

Buildings Technology Center

The Buildings Technology Center (BTC) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the premier U.S. research facility devoted to the development of technologies that improve the energy efficiency and environmental compatibility of residential and commercial buildings.

Credibility

They are a part of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Accuracy

They work in the public sector and in private industry for analysis, well-characterized experiments, technology development, and market outreach.

Reasonableness

Since they work for the government, attempting to improve energy efficiency, they may be a little partial.

Support

Because the BTC is a "National User Facility," its facilities are available to manufacturers, universities, and other organizations for proprietary and nonproprietary research and development.

ToolBase Services

ToolBase Resources combines product descriptions, design & construction guides, best practices, performance reports, case studies, and other resources in way that builders and remodelers will find useful.

http://www.toolbase.org/about.aspx

Credibility

ToolBase Services is a subjective website that compares the properties and top manufacturers of ACMU. They receive support and funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Accuracy

They have a ToolBase News production which is a bi-monthly technical newsletter that covers the latest research, trends, and other industry happenings. The newsletter provides practical information that building professionals can use immediately in their businesses.

Reasonableness

They are not a company that produces ACMU's nor do they benefit from the use of them in projects so their information should be reasonable.

Support

ToolBase resources come from product descriptions, design & construction guides, best practices, performance reports, and case studies.
