What Worked
What Didn't Work
Ways to Improve
Performance Parameters
Going to the library and looking through multiple different books.
Emailing distributors to request information.
Use a wider variety of books.
Buyer's Guide
Having the performance parameters complete so we could evaluate what the buyer would need.
Better performance parameters.
FMEA Analysis
Looking through the books provided by Dr. Pearce and help from other members of the team.
Trying to search on the internet.
Begin earlier and find more books.
Third Party Evaluation
Most third party evaluations were linked to trade organizations.
Talk to someone who has built or lives in a soil based masonry unit house.
Trade Associations
Dr. Pearce's suggestions and internet research.
Trying to search them under adobe trade associations.
Contact trade associations and to see if they are familiar with others.
Target Analysis: How well did the project/team do...
In achieving goals and meeting project objectives?
The project goal of technological performance of soil based masonry units is being met to the best of the teams' ability with the limited amount of resources available for research.
At meeting deadlines and the final completion date?
Meeting and deadlines seem to be a struggle. Everyone is not always available to meet so it is throwing off deadlines.
At monitoring and staying within project budget?
The project budget was time and we have had many problems meeting deadlines within the team. Not everyone is turning everything in when wanted but is before the final deadline.
At communicating with stakeholders?
Communicating with stakeholder other then Dr. Pearce was very difficult. Out of the five that were emailed only one responded with the answer "For thirty seven years we have been making soil based unit masonry and have not one bit of information we can send you except that we call them adobes"(Richard from New Mexico Earth).
Resources Assessment: were the allocated resources appropriate, sufficient, and efficiently used?
The resources were very limited. The ones that we were able to use did not go in to as much detail as we would have liked. It was a struggle to find sufficient information for soil based masonry units.
Lessons Learned: what are the key lessons that can be applied to future projects?
- Plan meeting more carefully to incorporate everyone in the team.
- Enforce deadlines within the team.
- Start working earlier rather then rushing to finish at the end.
